Synergy between modern technology and architectural heritage

The refurbishment of the Krausz Palace, located on UNESCO-listed Andrássy Avenue in Budapest, represented a unique challenge for both the developer, AEW Europe, one of the world’s leading asset management companies, and our team. Originally built in 1885, the 5,640 m² listed building is rich in artistic details, including interior murals by Károly Lotz and sculptures by Gyula Donáth and József Róna.
In 2019, AEW decided to modernize the property, aiming to create an office complex with a historic atmosphere while also meeting tenants’ expectations for advanced technologies. This required balancing strict heritage protection rules with the integration of modern building systems and sustainable solutions.
Our mandate covered project management, technical supervision, and BREEAM assessment, ensuring that the historic character of the palace was preserved while creating a state-of-the-art office environment. At the outset, we documented and safeguarded the heritage elements, from staircases to murals, before coordinating the demolition and refurbishment works.
The refurbishment introduced advanced, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems and modern lighting solutions, designed to reduce environmental impact and enhance functionality. Beyond preserving history, the project also delivered a workplace that combines representative prestige with comfort and sustainability. Today, the Krausz Palace strengthens the architectural fabric of Andrássy Avenue while providing future-ready office spaces.
