Reassessing Storage Capacities – At a University Scale

The University of Debrecen is one of Hungary’s leading research universities, offering the broadest spectrum of academic programs through 14 faculties and 24 doctoral schools. Commissioned by UD Catapult Nonprofit Ltd., the university’s subsidiary responsible for storage operations, Realiscon’s Debrecen office has been tasked with surveying existing storage spaces and developing a concept plan for future storage solutions. The project covers 76 storage facilities in several cities – including Debrecen, Szolnok, and Nyíregyháza – with a total area of 25,438 sqm.
Our assignment includes identifying current storage facilities, defining capacity requirements, and proposing a modern, efficient storage model. The scope also involves evaluating which areas can be released and preparing recommendations for their future reuse as educational, research, or administrative spaces.
The challenge lies in the diversity of stored assets: from everyday office equipment to nationally valuable book collections, and even gases requiring special storage conditions. A comprehensive report documenting the current state has already been completed, and based on these findings, we are now progressing with concept development.
