Etele Plaza Shopping Mall
CLIMATE RISK ASSESSMENT AND CRREM ANALYSIS
A Sustainability Compass for the Future
Etele Plaza is one of the largest shopping and entertainment centre in Budapest, with a total area of 82,000 m² offering retail, dining, fitness, children’s facilities, and a cinema that redefines the movie experience. Developed by Futureal, the project has already achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating, and further steps have now been taken to strengthen its long-term sustainability.
Realiscon’s mandate covered two key areas. First, we carried out a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment in line with EU Taxonomy requirements, identifying climate-related hazards over the building’s lifespan and recommending adaptation measures to mitigate these risks. Second, we performed simulations using the CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) tool to evaluate which investment strategies would ensure that the property’s carbon emissions decreased in order to prevent global warming exceeding the 1.5 °C target. Based on the 2023 consumption data, we assessed the impact of different development packages on energy performance and carbon footprint.
The results provide Futureal with a clear strategy for scheduling the necessary upgrades in building systems and energy efficiency. This ensures that Etele Plaza will remain sustainable, resilient, and aligned with market expectations for years to come.
