A New Nest for BirdLife Hungary
After more than four decades, BirdLife Hungary (MME – Magyar Madártani és Természetvédelmi Egyesület) is moving to a new home. The organisation is establishing its new centre in Budapest’s District III, Mocsárosdűlő, right next to a nature reserve.
The Egon Schmidt BirdLife Hungary Centre will provide modern facilities for both professional work and educational programs, offering significantly improved conditions compared to the previous headquarters in the Jókai Garden. Its location ensures close connection to a rich natural ecosystem, creating a direct link between conservation activities and their natural setting.
Realiscon is proud to contribute to this meaningful project through Project Management and Technical Supervision services. Supporting a development that is dedicated to nature protection and environmental awareness is both an honour and a responsibility for our team.
The new centre consists of three buildings, with a total area of 620 m². The foundation stone was laid in November 2024. Since then, the structure, roof, and façade have been completed, and interior works are currently ongoing. Completion is scheduled for July 2025.
The investment is financed by the EU LIFE Programme, private donations, and the association’s own resources. Named after the renowned ornithologist and writer Egon Schmidt, founder and honorary president of MME, the new headquarters will preserve the organisation’s 50-year legacy while also serving as an inspiring base for future generations.
MME today is one of the largest environmental NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe, with 10,000 members and thousands of volunteers actively engaged in conservation projects. This new home will ensure their vital work continues to thrive, with even greater impact on society and nature alike.
