Railway Safety Along Lake Balaton

The railway section between Balatonkenese and Balatonfűzfő runs directly along the lakebed, making the periodic maintenance of the coastal protection essential to ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of railway traffic. Rehabilitation of the stone revetment, which provides protection against wave action and ice movement, has therefore become necessary.
Realiscon was entrusted with a dual task. First, we carried out a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the structure – including geodetic and geotechnical surveys, bathymetric measurements, and a Natura 2000 impact assessment – and on this basis we designed the required reinforcement measures. Second, we prepared the plans for a temporary stone dock to facilitate the delivery and handling of construction materials.
With the necessary permits in place, construction can begin. The goal is to deliver a nature-harmonious and economical coastal protection system that ensures uninterrupted railway operations throughout the works.
