The Bálint-tó project is transforming the 16-hectare site of a former brick factory and clay mine in Törökbálint into a thoughtfully planned new urban district. The development will combine residential buildings, commercial and community functions, recreational areas and green spaces, breathing new life into a long-abandoned site.
Long before construction begins, one fundamental decision had already been made: the project would be prepared and designed within a measurable sustainability framework alongside the usual business and technical considerations.
The BREEAM Communities certification process, which started in the second quarter of 2025, has now reached an important milestone. With the support of Realiscon’s Sustainability Team, the project has successfully achieved BREEAM Communities Interim Certification. This makes Bálint Lake the first residential-led development in Hungary to achieve a BREEAM Communities certification.
The Interim Certification recognises the quality of the project’s early preparation phase. It reflects extensive stakeholder consultation, economic and demographic assessments, as well as the evaluation of flood risk, noise impact, energy and water strategies, ecological value, land use and transport connections.
Realiscon supports the development as projectmanager and BREEAM assessor. The next stage of the process will focus on ensuring that the sustainability principles established during project preparation are fully integrated into the design, guiding the development towards its final BREEAM Communities certification.
